Description
These barn were painted with the slogan See Rock City starting in the 1930s as a way to advertise the Rock City gardens in Chattanooga, Tennessee. There were different phrases painted on over 900 barns across the highways to attract drivers to the gardens, one of them that I saw recently that I liked, was "Bring your Camera" and see Rock City.. today there are less than 132 of these barns remaining, some have just fallen from age other have been removed to build roads or other marketing mediums. So I am trying to find as many as I can in my area, there are 59 in Tennessee alone, and so far I have spotted quite a few of those I hope you enjoying viewing these historic landmarks. This one here I took from the highway in a not too safe area, and looking up at the barn, the owner saw me out there and came out and invited me in to get some better photos and to give me a tour of his property thanks to him for the tour and the history he gave me on the area. He was so nice he told me to come back any time if I wanted more photos.

So, you live around that area? Been over there just before Christmas, took some shots by Nickajack Lake... It a good initiative preserving in images what in the future might be gone for ever...

I was driving from Phoenix to Sedona when I spotted a restaurant with large lettering on the side. The lettering was the restaurant's name, "Bad-Ass Barbeque Steakhouse" (I kid you not!). We had passed the exit and decided to stop on the way back. Unfortunately, it was too dark to find the restaurant. At least you had the good sense to stop and get those pictures!

Great write up, a wonderful piece of history. This is an interesting story. If I'm ever in that part of the world I will have to make an effort to see one of the barns or at least visit Rock City. In Canada, there's a place where you can see two provinces and a territory. That's about it.
