Gea, I've been absent from RR a great deal, and missed many galleries & many artworks. But this week I have determined to visit everyone once, to say happy new year & express my gratitude for their presence in my world. You've been in my gallery a number of times this fall, when I barely commented anywhere; and I'm very grateful for that; and you've always left caring & supportive comments wherever you went, and you've always cared about the art you've seen. It wasn't easy to choose one image in your gallery, because all of them are filled with memory, archetypes & myths. But this one struck me deeply, in a way I can't describe. I wonder if this vision of 'your house' isn't inspired by the flood you had, or by the struggle to rebuild. Whatever it was inspired by, it's a deep memory and it has longing, love, beauty & sparseness, perhaps of a home that you've cleared (in your mind) so you could embrace it alone, like embracing a home you return to after many months, quiet & soaked in solitude. The stairs & stone walls feel permanent; yet they also feel like a mist. You have rust colored lights on the bottom that almost look like flame. And it almost looks like a piano-top, on top of the image (something I relate to since I played classical piano many years). The dog & woman are repeated, and they seem to be at attention, as if looking for something beyond the frame. It really strikes chords in me. It's haunting & mysterious and, as in all your work, loving. I saved my image for you, for after the holiday...somehow I didn't want to mix it with the rest. It will go up in the next 2 or 3 days: I'll let you know. But for now, a Happy New Year to you and those you love, and I hope that 2010 brings you great joy & inspiration. Felice anno nuovo! I have read of your terrible experiences and losses due to floods. You have my deepest sympathy and a hope, that in time, the fears they engendered will diminish. This is a beautiful image, full of solitude and sadness. Excellent composition and emotional impact.
