Description

This is Egon. My good friend through sixteen years. He is the best pet in the world and love the snow and cold weather. This shot is made in may 2000 when I was testing the Nikon D1. From Wikipedia: The Norwegian Forest Cat is a breed of domestic cat native to Northern Europe, and adapted to a very cold climate. In Norway they are known as skogkatter or more properly, the Norsk skogkatt (literally, Norwegian Forest Cat). The breed is very old, and occurred as a natural adaptation to the cold climate of the region, but it was not regarded as anything other than a standard house-cat until the late 1930s, when a small number of 'Skaukatts' were shown in Germany and received very favorably by the judges. World War II brought an abrupt end to the fledgling Norwegian show cat industry, and the breed was forgotten until the 1970s. The cats are now being bred and shown in several countries including the United States. The first international association to accept the breed was FIFe, in 1977. They are rumored to be the early ancestors of the Maine Coon and the long-haired Manx. To Rob (debbielove), hehehe, who wanted to call the RCPCA because I sent Egon outside when it was 17`C below. They have more problems during the summer when its hot. They love the cold weather.

You have a really beautiful cat, he looks like a prince. Thanks for the interesting info about him. All the cats in general seem without age. I have a 14 years old kittie too and she has the same energy like always, They are sacre treasure for us!!! Excellent capture!!! Happy new year!!! :)

Your cat is a real beauty. Excellent shot and very interesting informations. I had a cat for 15 years, unfortunately she died some times ago, she had cancer.

Egon looks a great guy, can't believe he's 16! Actually I am very interested in his breed. Normally I am alergic to cats, except our old one (a tortoise shell who sadly died a few years ago). Someone mentioned that their fur is non allergic, is this true? Also how do they get on with dogs?

I have two half bread Maine Coons. They too love cold weather and to play in the snow. Since the arrival of the falcon to our neighborhood, I don't let my cats out anymore, but I still bring a little snow in for them. Gorgeous cat.
