Description

Thank you for the comments on my pic from yesterday. This shot was taken from the same point, this time northbound. (Yesterday was eastbound). The building back on the left side is a school. Some of you asked for more historical details about the ruin. I live in the most northerly part of Heidelberg, here the ruin is standing. This part of Heidelberg is older than Heidelberg itself, foundet in the year 765. The castle was build in early mediaeval times, nobody knows exactly when (~1200 - 1300) and it was destroyed in the 17. century during the Thirty Years'War. The moat was once filled with water. In 1770 the owner of the castle discovered a walled skeleton in medieval armament in a hollow cavity behind a wall. Some legends entwine themselves round this "walled knight". One of them says that the walled should have had a relation with an inhabitant of the castle Hirschhorn (there I made my last "fog-shot") and was immured to the punishment for this vividly. From 1911 to 1913 the castle was renovated partially. Please excuse my bad english, but I needed the help of a translator for this text. Thanks for looking.

Very interesting, Klaus, and the meaning is clear enough! Thankyou for the information and the beautiful photo. Your forest photos need no explantaion, but it would also be interesting to know a little more about that place too!

Excellent perspective and interesting facts to go along with it Klaus.. Seldom have I seen such low walls to a fortress. I assume a great moat must have provided some further protection.

Great image and many thanks for the historical background! I did not go to or even know about the Tiefburg while I was there, this is great fun to learn about it! I seem to recall a small stone observation tower or ruin in the woods on the hill above the Schloss. I wonder if you have a picture of that?
