Description
Not the true northern Lights (aurora borealis), but for a nice clear and very cold night (-7f), thought these lights from a nearby town (20 miles) north looked kinda interesting. I just loved how the ice cyrstals in the air helped to reflect the city lights without it being over bearing enough to create the pillars. If you look close you can see not only the big dipper but also the north star. This was taken about 7 miles north of Grafton Iowa or about 20 miles south of Austin Mn. Thanks for viewing. Stay warm

I saw Ursa Major immediately...or at least her dipper part! Funny how the big bear has such a long tail. This is a gorgeous shot! I'm glad I saw it. It also has a wonderful mood to it, almost anticipatory, but at the same time, contemplative. The colors are beautifully intense (the reddish/orange glow) without being overbearing. Superb work!

Yes, your camera was aimed just a few degrees east of true north. Nice shot! Almost looks like an alien planet is approaching.
