Description
Although they are the most colourful members of the crow family, jays are actually quite difficult to see. They are shy woodland birds, rarely moving far from cover. The screaming call, in flight, usually lets you know a jay is about. Jays are famous for their acorn feeding habits and in the autumn you may see them burying acorns for retrieving later in the winter. They eat mainly acorns, nuts, seeds and insects, but also eats nestlings of other birds and small mammals.
This photo was taken when we visited Germany in February 2008.

Your Jays are certainly different than mine. My Blue Jays are loud, bold, and rather obnoxious....and certainly make themselves known. Your Jay is beautiful.

We are beseiged by Jays here at certain times, and they always turn up when the robins are nesting to kill the babies.. I wish they would confine themselves to a vegetarian diet! But they are beautiful creatures all the same.
