BIO
Short Bio: Fantasy Artist Uwe Jarling was born in 1968. After graduating with a diploma degree in graphic design 1991 he worked as a illustrator and graphic designer further on. His first works were countless covers for videos, books, ... and many technical and architectural illustrations for advertising agencies. An important step in his further development followed in 2000 where he started to develop his "Fantasy Artwork" more seriously and did his first attempts creating his art on a computer. Since 2003 almost all of his work is painted digitally for clients all over the world mainly in the Fantasy Art genre. Uwe lives and works in a little village in the south of Germany. Tools used: Fantasy Artist Uwe Jarling is a traditional artist using traditional media like oils, watercolors and mainly gouache, but the last years he did the step into creating his art digital. The last 3 years 98% of his images are created using digital tools. Uwe experimented with several digital tools 3d as well as 2d. For 3d he experimented with 3d max, Poser, Vue, Bryce and more nice 3d applications, but as it doesnt fit him too well he decided to work mainly using 2d digital tools. For his 2d digital images Uwe uses mainly the software Painter, currently version 9, so most of his paintings are now done with Painter. For color corrections of his images or several effects Uwe uses Photoshop. All his latest images are done using Painter 9 and some Painter 9 and Photoshop CS in combination. Uwe currently paints on a Macintosh G5 using a pressure sensitive Wacom tablet.
Uwe was voted for Januarys 2006 Renderosity Artist of the Month. Read the AOM interview here:

Why put down the fact that you used Poser and Vue? They are tools after all. I used Poser and Vue for all my commission work and they don't look nearly as professional as yours. (meaning you have much more talent) I think this look awesome and I look forward to seeing my from you this year. Happy New Year!

Poser and Vue means that you can do movie-quality scenes and not spend more money than you earn creating them;) I couldn't make money as an illustrator without Poser to speed up my scene creation--and your results are so awesome, I know that the publisher was very happy to see the art..and I am sure the publisher did not care at all how it was made, only that it is beautiful!

I think it looks amazing, and seriously, if movie studios are using Vue, ZBrush and other 3D apps, there's no reason not to add them to your arsenal. If it's good enough for Disney and the Pirates movies it should be good enough for just about anyone. :) And I've always been more impressed with the end results rather than what was used to get there. This is extraordinary no matter the journey.

Fantastic work!!!

An epic scene! Very well done!!

Awesomely superb. What ever tools get the job done are the ones to use and if it's faster and cheaper then why the hell not, why are things that make art easier with pre-work packages shunned and things that make art easier with post-work packages encouraged. Anyway I would never of guessed this was Vue and Poser and pre-made content, so it's completely your own work.

Thats epic in scale and action.Using whatever means to justify the end as long as good has benefits in many ways evidently.I am considering to buy Vue for scenes as Im never happy with what bryce farts out at me.lol.Your multi zillion character war frenzy scene is out of control with class. Its images like yours that make my gallery visits extra special and I hope you do find time to post more work for us this year.Firstly I want you to get commissions tho..!Im just gonna leave now with that britney song chime'n in my ear!Ooops you did it again ..lol!If art was lunch Ive just dined at the best resterant! Thanks Uwe and HNY cal:)

I agree with the comments expressed about tools, they are only of use to a person with your artistic talents! Nor do I think the same arguement applies to Photography! This is superlative work my friend!
Toribev
Excellent work.. only great artistry can make the tools and components come to life. You are a master with them and at it.
dragonmuse
Tools are tools.. It's the skill and talent of the user that matters.. And you obviously have a lot of both. Fantastic work!

This is a masterly illustration, superb work! I agree with previous commenters that it is the final image that counts, not how you get to it, and this has great detail, atmosphere and power - excellent!

i agree !

Really professional - I'd hang it on my wall if it were a poster.

Fantastic image!! I don't think it matters what tools are used it's the end result that matters and this is truly amazing.
