Sorry for the corny title - just couldn't resist. My name is Dennis and I just got back into photography after two-decade layoff. I started off in 35mm in 1973 and lugged a couple of bags of gear, cameras, lenses, etc around the world during a 22 year Navy career. I got out of that habit after kids came along and cribs, diaper bags and car seats elbowed out camera gear for room in the car. Also, while my wife was remarkably patient with my stopping and waiting for just the right lighting, dirty-diapered kids were less so.
I got back into photography after my wife "forced" me to buy a DSLR in December of 2008. We'd gone to a camera store to buy a point and shoot for her to use in her antiques and collectibles business and she caught me looking at a couple of DSLRs in the display case. She suggested I check them out 'just for fun", but, when I tried to give them back to the sales person she asked "Which one do you want?" and refused to leave the store until I chose one.
Sadly, I lost Mrs Sea_Dog to cancer six months later, but fortunately she got to see me revive the passion I once had. My gallery is a lasting tribute to her and our love.

Over the last two and a half years, since learning about Renderosity from a friend, has been a continuous learning and discovery process. The artists here are so amazingly talented and inspirational - and extremely friendly. Seeing their work and reading their comments on mine have allowed me to grow as an artist much faster than I could have on my own.

I lived in San Dog for a couple of years, and I hadn't thought of that name for the skyline. I like this picture, too. Nice shot.

'using my rolled up jacket and car roof as a tripod'!!!!!!! I thought only I did that!!! I have about 4 tripods but half the time I never take them with me. I've just been given one of those industrial strength Gorillapods....so if I can only remember to take 'that' with me I'll be fine! Great shot.

The descriptions of the buildings es very funny. Beautiful shot! I like the black water and reflections, the light coming from one of the regular screwdrivers and the golden glow of the buildings.

I just began in photography (I come from years in painting & drawing) so I get enough grain to start my own wheatfield. But I also understand that some shots are difficult even for masters; and the grain here, though present, is not intrusive to my eye. I see it, but I'm not bothered by it. It's a toolbox, but also a little gem box, because of the uniform glitter of the skyline, the flare/saturated light of some of the white lights, and the almost tactile nature of the waves, not to mention the naturally purpled sky (where you can see the grain most). Also, the proportions are fine to my eye. (Proportions being one of those subtle imperceptible facets of photography and also design: One knows when it's right but can't always explain why, even though a fraction of an inch can make all the difference in the world.) A fine shot of a skyline. Direct but with just enough fine detail. You do night-light shots well, I see. It strikes me as a difficult art.
