Description

The Jumpgates scattered across the Empire of Many Suns are considered, collectively, one of the wonders of the known galaxy. They were constructed very recently by the Mogg'Theran, to unite their empire, but it's clear that the technology behind their construction comes from some older, unknown race. They allow instant travel between one gate and the next. However, both the destination and departure gate must agree to allow the ship through. Ships transmit a travel fee, and then fly through the rings, coming out hundreds of light years away. From there, they must make their own way to various planets and destinations in range of conventional FTL systems. There are ten of these monolithic structures, each one over a major tradeworld of the former Empire...all except the first gate, which once orbited the Mogg'Theran home world. About 200 years ago, the home world of the Mogg'Theran was destroyed by the Vorhasi, sending the Empire spinning into dissolution and anarchy. That gate now floats abandoned over a system that is only noteworthy as being a graveyard and navigational hazard. Now, several of the former subject races of the Empire of Many Suns battle for control of these gates...for the race that controls the gates, controls the Empire. There are some who have worked at the jump gates who claim there are stories of an eleventh gate on the grid. No one knows who built it...in fact, nobody knows where it is. It appears that every jump gate can link to every other jump gate...even if they were built by species who have had no contact with one another...which means the Eleventh Gate could open on the other side of the known universe. Supposedly, there have been several attempts by whomever owns the Eleventh Gate to open one of the Imperial Gates. Such requests are always denied...and since whoever owns that other gate doesn't have comparable computer technology or a way of communicating, no one knows who...or what...keeps knocking on the door to this sector of space... Enjoy, and let me know what you think.

The expression of gate devotes itself to the spaceship which a splendid spaceship wants to take bigger, but small, and it is displayed and feels like it being a waste
