Description

The Frari’s Basilica. St. John the Baptist, by Donatello (1438). I is the only statue by Donatello left in Venice and also one of the masterpieces. Mortified by penance, clothed in a shaggy hide with a mantle thrown over his shoulders, the Baptist maintains all his admonishing power in the force of his expression and his raised arm.

Superb! I have not seen this one. Very similar style to his Mary Magdalene in Florence, which is one of my most favourite works.
