Description
The aircraft above seems to be part of a myth to do with the four Gladiators left on Malta in 1940. When it was down to three, someone (the media probably) thought that they should be called Faith Hope and Charity. However, Hope and Charity succumbed and only one was left.
This was known as ‘Faith’ and having survived the war has now been rebuilt and now looks like a Sea Gladiator in a museum in Valletta. I have drawn Faith with the Blenheim Mercury engine she flew with due to parts shortages (and ammo incidentally, although I understand she managed to down a ‘Sparviero’ during the thick of the bombing campaign

most excellent!

Beautiful reconstruction. I always have a soft spot for this aircraft, a tough little fighter especially in the hands of pilots like Payttle or Wykham Barnes!

Yes, I've also had an affection for this particular fighter plane. Didn't know the story about Faith, Hope, and Charity, though.

Been holding off commenting on this... Gritting my teeth.. You have done an excellent repo of these famous aircraft.. Top work... I have just finish reading a HUGE book on the air battle over Malta.. The Gladiators, Faith Hope and Charity came into being .. as there was generally only 3 of them flying at any one time.. There were MORE than 3 Sea Gladiators on Malta.. But, battle damage etc caused only an average of 3 to fly.. And a fantastic job they did as well... Out gunned, out performed in almost every aspect, they put the Italian Air Force 'off' bombing accurately.. I believe only one enemy aircraft was shot down.. The Sea Gladiators were 'found' on the dockside and quickly assembled and some pilots found with NO combat experience... So the legend grew! Respect.. Great work.. I have seen the Gladiator on Malta... A fine aircraft.. Rob
