Description

When I went on this expedition, I knew I would find something special. This was far beyond my expectations! I had a hard time picking the shot to post, every time I moved around this thing the light and colors in the ice changed completely. It is a huge column about thirty feet high, eight feet thick or more, with the water that created it visibly flowing down through channels and chambers in the ice. The sound it makes is like laughter. The trip up Bee Rock turned out to be far more dangerous than expected, with the steep trail covered in snow and in many places with thick, hard ice. But I went slowly and carefully, and I'm glad I have these photos. I would do it again, but with better gear, like a small shovel, an ice axe, and maybe even crampons! Here is the scene a couple of months ago. thumb_1994019.jpg

Oh! As soon as I saw this picture, I remembered the other one with the sunlight streaming in... This one is also spectacular!! I love when someone takes a picture of a place or object and then goes back at a later time and shows what it looks like then. Thanks SO much for sharing this beautiful shot with us!

You are a fanatic like me! Sometimes it is okay to do a little risk, the result counts! I am a geologist; I wished my professors at the university have had such pics to turn us on as young students! Thanks for this catch and thanks for sharing it with us!

this is very impressive.. I know the falls near me were iced over like this, but I sure didn't get out to see them. I am adventurous like you are but not in cold weather LOL.. the most adventurous I got today was some shots of pine cones in the snow in my back yard wooohooo I can't get over the different colors in the rocks how amazing. Beautiful work Charles.

Great photo! One thing I like about the Winter is the way it reveals water flowing from rock faces. Must admit I never would have expected the waterfall to freeze. Wonderful lighting and textures. Good luck on your future expeditions!
