Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

You've got me chuckling over this one: a computer monitor next to a toilet! Heh. Somehow that does seem fitting. Great shot.

Yeah. Messages in images. This has many of them, many commentaries. The idea that a toilet, a garbage bag filled with who-knows-what, and a computer monitor could be placed so casually together speaks volumes about a particular mentality...or probalby an apartment being gutted, and well...that's so Chicago. That hint of blue IN the toilet bowl is just priceless...someone wanted to make sure that it was germ free and fresh as it sat in that alley or wherever it was place. This is well seen, and though I'm tempted to go on and on about the disposability of necessary things, I'll refrain and just sit back and bask in the surrealism of this shot. I do have to ask, though...could this be classified as "toilet humor?" Oh, and while I'm at it...it's quite hilarious that the garbage seems pristine while the concrete its sitting on is so cracked and damaged.

This has so many messages, so many ways to go, my mind is in a whirl! What an excellent image! You're a master at SEEING, my dear. Fantastic stuff.

Around here, those old toilets turn into planters--but I don't think I've seen flowers in an old monitor yet. Great image--and yeah, social commentary for sure!

The best seat in the house, yesterday's debris and big but probably dim knockoff monitor. What do they all have in common? They are vainly hoping someone will give them a new home...kind of like the lonely, lost kittens down at the city animal shelter :) Well done Corey!
