Description

A view of the crowd that gathered at Prato della Valle, Padova, first for the distribution of eight thousand Befana's socks full of candies for the children, donated by a supermarket chain, and then for the bonfire. This wasn't the only bonfire in town, actually there were almost three or four more, and others in the smaller towns of the province, but this was the hugest. The crowd was immense, with an estimate of about 30,000 people. Many were families of immigrants from Eastern Europe, since Epiphany is the beginning of their Christmas, according to the Greek Orthodox calendar. In order to reach a good position to get a good view of the bonfire, I behaved at my worst, elbowing my way, pushing those who had already there aside, treading on the weakling, bullying the coward into give me room and not disturb my shots moving their heads. I did it only for you, to give you some good shots. I hope you'll appreciate my spirit of sacrifice.... Thank you for your kind comments.

I certainly appreciate your efforts though if I were one you elbowed, I'd not be so pleased. Still one must pursue one's art. Lol. I'm glad you did.

lol on your sacrifice: I have no doubt. With all you present us, and the pictures you get for us, I'm sure you've had to undergo major battles to get where you wanted to go. The tradition of handing out food is wonderful, and your shot has a pinkish glow which feels almost like the coming of some special spirit of giving. Nice proportions, with the people all crammed at the bottom and the sky looming above in that beautiful hue (with balloons too!). Your shot captures the sense of what shines over a festival like this. More fine work in your series, Sandra...

Ahh yes! I do recall hearing about all the bruised and crippled people that were affected by this celebration when a camera toting individual bullied her way to the best spots in the festivities. How many were buried that day??? Just kidding! A most excellent shot and thank you for your bravery in humbling the crowd to your will for our sakes! Most appreciated!

Oh, I appreciated it very much! Just like sweets eaten while on vacation don't count, rudeness for the sake of us at rendo, is a virtue! LOL! What an interesting juxtaposition of balloons! A heart looking butterfly next to a tank of war! "Bravo for life's little ironies" as in the Doonesbury strip by G.B. Trudeau! Excellent image and information!
