Description

Navigator's Log: "our biggest problem isn't getting around, it's knowing where you are going. One wrong turn and you find yourself diving into a Black Hole, and that would end your trip fast. As apart of trade agreements that we made with some of the Extraterrestrial Embassies that have set up on Earth, we had acquired star maps to guide us on our way out. And that's where the problems started. Different races had different ideas of what planets, systems and civilizations were of value, excluding anything that they didn't see fit. As an example, Vulcans, though professing to be of a logical and scientific nature, lack curiousity about places that they don't feel could harbour life. Klingons and Romulans both live to conquer, looking for planets that they can take over and colonize, excluding the ones that would be too much trouble. Andorians like cold and barren places, so beach life is right out, and the Ferengi like primitive places that they can exploit, ignoring any world that has a more jaundiced view of being taken advantage of. So, our problem was to find a solution... I used an ancient photo shopping technology to create all the maps into layers and then combining the layers into one image, creating a wider view of the known cosmos... Our Science Officer Lt. Spock, himself a Vulcan, raised an eyebrow and said "Fascinating, I would never have come up with that solution myself.." I could only smile..." furthering the voyage out... some maps are useful. some maps are useless, only showing you where someone else has been already... Apophysis, then Gimp, then Photosuite comments welcome please enjoy!

A fractal explosion...who would have thunk it ? (only fractal users, of course !) Anyway, they wouldn't like OZ, surrounded by beautiful beaches, on the other hand, maybe they would go for the Nullarbor Plain (or Great Victoria Desert), on the way to Western Australia, from where we live. Enjoy the ride... BB

Your line about one wrong turn ending your trip, reminded me of the very first time I went out driving on my own, I was going to meet a friend for lunch, I was in another town and I didn't know my way around and then it started raining, and I was lost.. I turned into this neighborhood to turn around, (my wrong turn) when I went to turn I didn't pay attention and look twice, and well long story short I hit a motor home. The owners were an older couple leaving on a trip, well I am sure I ruined their day and trip, but they were so kind to me, they took me back to their house which was down the street from where the accident had happened, we made calls, they gave me milk and cookies, I swear, so my wrong turn, eventually turned out okay, my car had a lot of damage, but I learned a few lessons that day. Its not quite as exciting as your story here about space, and black holes but your write up reminded me of that day and incident. And we some how survived back then with GPS and cell phones and map quest. Nice work, Spock would be proud I am sure. :)
