Description

thanks, all my good friends who did so much good with your well wishes to my great wife karin (and of course kruimeltje) and to me. last thursday i was taken to hospital in a great hurry and operated on the same day. when i came to they told me that they removed a very big part of my intestines, that i had a small heart attack and pneumonia to boot. i have known better days with better messages and more so because i heard a few days later that it was a bad tumor. i have been lying around for days with only one cup of water to keep my mouth at least a little wet. from sunday i was allowed to actually drink a few cups of water and from tuesday i was allowed to have some fluid food. bad times with lots of very nasty medications. thank god and pharmacy for painkillers. i had a surgeon, an intern specialist, a heart specialist, a lung specialist and nurses and physiotherapists - thanks for their patience and kindness. i am not good in hospitals, i go berserk. when today i left (i had to force it because they wanted to keep me at least till tomorrow and preferably through the weekend) i thanked all those fabulous people a lot, one had been running around to fill out papers, push the specialists to discharge me, write prescriptions and arrange follow up (and it is not easy to move those creatures!) they succeeded at the end of a long day (started at 06:00 and ending at 15:30) when they removed my final drip (i had for of those stands at one time!) i asked if i could have that one. they thought i was mad, of course, which i am, but i told them there is something nice in everything and i would try to make it into an interesting image one day and send them all a copy. this is just a slightly photofiltred one, i can't do much drawing yet, but it gives an idea. i never can thank you enough for being there and when i have a good drawing it will be dedicated to all of you too. now i wish i could enjoy my coffee, but for some reason everything i eat or drink or smell tastes or smells foul, i hope this disappears. in the coming weeks i have to eat lots of pills (karin just came in with a card load) and i have to visit all the specialists above and a few extra, so i will be busy. i will try to answer/comment everything, but i fear it will not come to that, please excuse me for that.

What a HORRIBLE adventure! So good to see you so soon! Trust you to make art out of misery..you are a star! They told us again on TV this week that people who have dogs get better from heart trouble very much more quickly than those who have no dog! So, dachshund to the rescue! hooray.

Koosie, you really had your share in this hospital stay. I am happy to see you home and hopefully resting. I can't say I'm surprised to see you home early. I would expect that from you, and I know the effort that it took to get you home early, too. Healing, effects from surgery and anesthesia all take time to recover from. Take it easy, and let Karin help you. You have a wonderful wife, and friends who all want you to get well again and back to here as you want and are able. Huge Healing Hugs!

Please don't worry about anything but taking good care of yourself. I'm glad you made it through your ordeal and are safely home. Keep on with the recovery. You've been through so much. How wonderful that you had enough strength to be so creative after such an ordeal and that so many loved ones are there to comfort and aid you. I'm way behind in my comments, but I wanted to say welcome back and that I wish you the best of health.

Take care, and use your time and efforts to become healthy. Whatever you still have to give in the way of interesting pictures comes later. Better you get in top form first. Groeten aan Karin en Kruimeltje.

What a piece of work. You're right in that there's something beautiful in everything, and of course the science fiction writer in me is intrigued by these tubes and containers and insertion points...it's like...Oh, I don't know...something terribly complicated and biologically interactive! The sense of color and light is astounding, and I'm glad to see that something as beautiful as color and light can be drawn from something as distasteful as implements of medical necessity. This is fantastic work, and I hope that things are definitely looking up, especially in terms of the emergency that prompted the initial source of this beautiful artwork. This is wonderful, and I'm sure that coffee and other things will begin to take on their normal savory flavors soon!

yes Koosie, making art of your operation: They do have a 'flare' to them, don't they. I wish you great healing Koosie, and great strength to Karin too, who's been with you through every bit; and I know you'll pace yourself--as everyone wants you to--and know that everyone here thinks the world of you. Great idea for a piece, I wish you all the healing in the world!

You can see art anywhere and this just proves it. I feel some humor here as well, and what would we do without being able to laugh at what wants to knock us flat. Be well, know there are a LOT of people who care.

Ag ... All this paraphernalia is so familiar to me. I've had more than one friend involved in extended hospital stays for various nasty reasons, and have seen my share of such things. It makes for an excellent image though, with the loops and shapes and colors. You have taken something quite ordinary and made it into something extraordinary and special. This is my best advice to you: Take good care of yourself. Let Karin help you. Pet Kruimeltje a lot. Listen to every single thing the doctors tell you, and make up your own mind about what you will and will not do. They would have you running in and out for every little thing, and you must make your own choices. I know you will anyway ... this is only permission to do so. :) Be well ...

Though I have stood and admired your work without comment .. I must comment now. It is good to see you back! You are very strong person to have gone through all that, and to be home so soon. Your coffee will begin to taste better, and so will all your other food. It takes time for all those horrid medications to work out of your system and stopp affecting your taste buds. Drink lots of liquids to help flush all that stuff through your kidneys. Your kidneys will thank you for all the liquid to help process all that nasty stuff. Not only are you strong, you have a marvelous sense of humor, you have a wonderful wife, and loyal Kruimeltje. There is nothing better then a loyal Kruimeltje by your side to soothe your nerves and snuggle up to you to comfort you. Who would've thought to make art out of tubes???

Sorry to hear about your health problems - must have been hard for you and your loved ones. I'm glad you're on the mend now and even found inspiration for art in a piece of medical equipment. I wish you all the best and hope you can be back to drawing in no time!
