Description

There's a halo 'round the moon So I know it ain't to blame 'Cause I knew what love could do... (Steve Earle ) A halo formed around the moon is a fairly common sight that occurs when high thin clouds containing millions of tiny ice crystals cover much of the sky. Each ice crystal acts like a miniature lens. To be honest I didn't think of the scientific explanation when I watched this moon looking at the thinning crowds after the bonfire. The woman under the statue on the foreground looked pensive and alone, and made me think of the song. The canal that surrounds the small island in the centre of Prato della Valle square is one of the few visible parts of it after the interrement in the 1950s. Thank you for your kind comments.

Sandra this is a lovely photo and you've managed to capture all the beauty this beautiful area has to offer. Managing to capture the lady in such a manner really added to the moment

Never knew what made the halo around the moon before. Now, you've smartened me up a bit:) Very interesting photo and she does look rather alone. Nicely done Sandra.

a gentle & haunting photo, which reveals things with time. I just found the woman after looking, she kind of whispers her way out of the night & seems at home in the dark. Beautiful capture of statuary at night, a lit-up line of buildings, a clear dark water (w/ reflection) and that moon. Beautifully composed shot; and if this is the end of this series, it's a beautiful way to end, tapering off into infinity and dark with a lone straggler lost in thought...If not, it's a beautiful interlude in the series. One of the joys of watching your series unfold is the stops you make, the elaborations you give on the way, and the pacing you get almost instinctively. The photo is beautiful on its own, but it also fits into the procession of images before. And it's fun to see Steve Earle after Caesar & Befana & Brighid, etc. A beautiful shot and it fits so nicely into this series...the quiet dark after the festival...very fine moment of reflection.

This reminded me of an old song by the Capris - There's a moon out tonight, let's go strolling through the park. Wonderfully atmospheric. I do hope she's just waiting for someone. Well captured.
