Description

Snoqualmie is the English pronunciation of "sah-KOH-koh" or "Sdob-dwahibbluh," a Salish word-meaning moon. A traditional burial site, the falls are the place where First Woman and First Man were created by Moon the Transformer and where prayers were carried up to the Creator by great mists that rise from the powerful flow. The mists rising from the base of the waterfall are said to serve to connect Heaven and Earth. As a spiritual place, it gave birth to many legends. One tells of "S'Beow" (the beaver), who climbed into the sky to bring trees and fire down to earth. The Native Americans who roamed the valley were known as people of the moon. White settlers began to arrive by the early 1850s. By 1877, there were several logging operations in the region. In early days, logs were floated over the falls and down the river to Everett and Puget Sound. In 1889, Charles Baker, a civil engineer, founded the town of Snoqualmie. He also constructed an underground power plant at the falls in the 1890s. Those original generators are still functioning today.

Beautiful image, inspiring of deep meditation. The cool blue tones of the falls against the warmth of the tree add to the sense of mystery and spiritual awareness. That these falls should long be considered a place of connection with the gods is inevitable. I would love to stand there! I think the energy of the Earth must be very strong and flow through one as he stands in wonder at this view. With the sounds of the water added, it must be a wondrous experience indeed. Your capture is masterful! Thank you for your words and image.
