Description

Another bird, but bigger! I was on top of Bee Rock one afternoon when this buzzard came by to look me over. Nice photo-op! Some people are put off by their feeding habits, but the woods and fields are much nicer places for their services. I think they are some of the most graceful fliers in the air. I’m fascinated by how they can ride the air currents all afternoon without ever flapping their wings, steering by tiny movements of their wingtip feathers.

Ah. The Turkey Buzzard. Lovely fellows. They blacken out high desert skies each year with their migration. Huge, too. I once got caught in a swarm when they where on the dirt road & one almost slammed into the windshield. I could tell it was a boy, it was so close. ;) Fab shot!

Same situation as noted by "Savage dragon" here in Florida too. I think these bloody birds are taking over the country at times.

I found them fascinating to watch in Texas and was very surprised to see them in Elk Island Park near Edmonton too!

Oh a turkey buzzard! They are seen quite a bit around here. They can actually be pretty sweet. A man who rehabs raptors brought one of these to a presentation he did and while he held her on his arm, she was digging into his pockets with her head trying to find a treat. She was pretty sweet...if you could get by her rather unattractive face. But a BIG bird!
