In the arts, vanitas is a type of symbolic work of art especially associated with Northern European still life painting in Flanders and the Netherlands in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, though also common in other places and periods. I can only add "memento mori" here ;) It has also something of a metal CD cover, or maybe it is just me and my weired music taste ;) The vanitas symbolic is something that inspires me much and it is great to see that others too are familar with it. PS: Did you know that vanitas symbols can also be kind of "hidden" in pictures with f.e. ripe fruits or slightly withered flowers and without skulls at all? Maybe this can inspire you for the next images :D
