Description

Too much color, I know. A ship, based on the idea "there is a lot of hydrogen atoms in the universe - why don't use them?" So, there is 90 per cent of a hypersonic ramjet engine and only 10 per cent of carrying capacity. Thats more realistic than Star Trek :-)

Maybe it's a Cinema 4D thing, but I love the colors and style. Very cool stuff!!

No problem with the colour: Remember, a ship ot that far won't be receiving any appreciable light (unless it happens to be near a star), so it would appear black anyhow. So, that gives you a great degree of artistic freedom in regards to what colours are used, since your representation doesn't have to be confined to just the visible spectrum. ;) Still just as realistic as Trek ships, though: the EM scoop proposed for collecting the hydrogen is just as fictitious as Trek's space-warping technology. However, the beauty of low-tech ships like this is that it only takes 51 weeks to accelerate to lightspeed at one gee (9.8m/s²).

@ Madd Matt: Yes, collecting the hydrogen by an active process, like a magnetic "cage", imagined in a story by Poul Anderson, doesn't make any sense. It should work like a ramjet engine to atomize the hydrogen on the fly, perhaps using antimatter or very fast protons. Before it works the ship has to accelerate to two-thirds lightspeed using conventional engines. But - of course! - it's SF too.... The main reason against it is the over-heated surface at the front, near lightspeed it will be hotter than sun. The so-called "empty space" will be more solid than concrete at this speed...
