Description
Each year at the police department where I work we have an open house, where the public is invited to walk through the police station and look at different exhibits. Other nearby police departments are invited to attend with different equipment, such as armored vehicles, SWAT Teams, bomb squads. Each year the Manchester, NH Police Department brings their mounted patrol and they usually turn out being the most popular.
They are riding black Percherons and on the very front of each horse, on their chest, they have an official police badge and when they are on duty they are considered police officers and if you harm or kill them, the penalties are severe.
When these beautiful horses get to galloping, the ground shakes!

I can't imagine using Percherons for police patrol. We have mounted state police here in the city but they are definitely not Percherons. I imagine sitting on one in uniform really commands respect and attention by the sheer size of the two together.

interesting pic. my first reaction was "what sturdy horses !", i did not know that Percherons were being used for police work. those guys look like they could haul logs anytime!

What an absolutely beautiful horse! I live in a very 'horsey' county, so polo mints, apple and carrot are carried each time I leave the house! I'd have loved to have encountered this fine animal! Impressionnant ! Et la couleur (que ne connaissais pas pour les percherons) ajoute quelque chose. Je suis un peu plus habitué à voir des ardennais près de chez moi, et ces percherons semblent être encore plus hauts sur pattes. Alors on va obéir sagement au monsieur en uniforme...
