Description

Boscastle had played it's Part in the life of Thomas Hardy he met his first wife Emma while he worked as an Architect to restore the Church of St Juliot, and never got over the death of his Cornish wife.. She encouraged him to write and his novels are some of the best ever written in the English language.. Later he wrote many poems, one of which from an old cornish word for Boscastle came the following extract.. And perhaps suits the lone figure standing at the cliff. And to me, though Time's unflinching rigour, In mindless rote, has ruled from sight The substance now, one phantom figure Remains on the slope, as when that night Saw us alight. I look and see it there, shrinking, shrinking, I look back at it amid the rain For the very last time; for my sand is sinking, And I shall traverse old love's domain Never again. Thomas Hardy

The poem goes very well with the dramatic landscape. Is that a phone box in case of emergencies? Down here you can never find one when you want it.
