Description

Found this one in my files from the U.S. Naval Aviation Museum at Pensacola NAS. The Mig-15 served with over 40 different air forces from the late 1940s into the 1990s. Over 18,000 were produced in the USSR and several other countries. It was a fine fighter that gained its fame in the Korean War as the opponent of the North American F-86 Sabre. The better trained US pilots had the upper hand over the Chinese, and North Korean flown Migs. Well trained Soviet Mig pilots were called "Honchos" by the USAF pilots and were a much greater challenge. The Sabre pilots came out on top, but the Mig-15 scored against a wide variety of USAF and UN aircraft with it's heavy 23mm and 37mm cannons.

18,000? That's a lot of Migs. Awesome shot. I bet that was a fun visit to the museum.

Sleek, fast and deadly. A great gift by the British to the Russians was the engine that powered this ship!

A timely shot Rog, my friend! I was reading in my aircraft mag, that in Poland there is one about to fly in Civilian hand after a loooong restoration process! Along with its two seat chum! (Lin models) They will be seen at Airshows over Europe... We'll see? Great shot... Nice to see...:-) Rob.

Cool picture Rog. The Mig 15 was the first jet I ever saw and heard. It was either in 1952 or 1953 when a couple of them flew over our neighborhood on the outskirts of West-Berlin, low and fast.
