Description

I snapped this last Summer in South Dakota. This burley dude was lumbering from flower to flower, and I managed to snap this shot while he was in-between two flowers. Chipka has some excellent pics of these wasps, and a detailed story to go with them.

Hey, how did you get one of these to cooperate!? Great black wasps don't do the cooperation thing very well...they're usually too busy eating like...well...like wasps. I love the dangling legs and raised abdomen! And the details are stunning. I tried to get my little critter to do something other than blur half the shots, but all it did was...well...blur half the shots. This is amazing! I love this shot. You have wasp-whispering capabilities second to none! This is fantastic.

Stunning. It's like superwasp! What a shot. It's not lumbering so much as its lunging like some Bela Lugossi vampire aiming his fangs at some Fae Wray knockoff. This is great.

Wow, so magestic. Nice work catching it in flight. The wings look almost leathery. Awesome.
