Description

Sometimes the beach is just the beach, and sometimes it's a magical place where anything is possible. It's a great place to play, or just to sit and think and watch the water.

My brain flashed a very silly image when I read the title..a beach full of many kilted men! never mind. A brooding atmosphere with a perfectly place gull..marvellous.

Wonderful composition, Tara! I find it all so very inviting, even in the cold of winter...the view holds its own warmth.

What a magical scene you found this day. The clouds, the driftwood, the seagull...wow, you found the perfect shot.

Whoever would have thought the beach in January could be so inviting? Love your POV, composition and the way you postworked this scene, particularly adding light and enriching the foreground.

Wonderful color and light! The two gulls add to the magical beauty and sense of peaceful solitude. I love the low, dark clouds.

Those dark, low clouds add so much atmosphere to this image...hmmm...I suspect I made an unintentional pun! But anyway, this is a wonderfully atmospheric and contemplative shot. It even looks like the Nemaean homeworld, you know...that Nemaean planet creatively named Nemaea? I could easily see Ilya wandering along this beach, looking vaguely disturbed or nauseated, which would be typical of him. I suspect that he'd be an interestingly challenging, but ultimately poor photographic subject as like an insect, he just wouldn't cooperate. But aside from all of that, I love this shot, and the way that it implies so much. The foreground is very non-beach-ish in that it's got driftwood and jumbled structures and very little "open" sand...this is an active beach, full of surprises and ambiance. Such a sweet piece of work!

Hey, that's not an airplane! Where are the fantastically angled captures of manmade aircraft? Oh well, this stellar photo, with the black clouds hanging ominously over the serenity of the beach, will do just fine. And the gull can substitute for a airplane in this instance.
