Description

This map must be ZOOMED to read it! This is the beginning of a new series. These photos were taken on a hike on trail 510. Where it loops around the stone monolith that the arch is part of, every step brings new views of amazing rock formations. They would be very tempting for rock climbers, but Forest Service regulations forbid it. The formations are intricate, and would be damaged by regular climbing. Also, the rock faces are the home of a varied and complex ecosystem. A result of this policy is that no one can be on top of the monolith, creating an undisturbed island of wilderness in the air. You have seen some of the pictures I took on my trip here a couple of weeks ago. After culling the bad shots, I was still left with nearly 200 photos. I narrowed that down, with difficulty, to 14. Walk with me, and I will show you some of the amazing things, large and small, I saw along the way. Previously; thumb_2011380.jpg

Thanks for the invite, I love to hike, let me get my boots.... :) It sounds like a great series, and I do still have hopes of getting up this way very soon.
