Description

I am on a cuteness roll lately. Don't worry, I'll run out of cute images soon. This little critter, as I am sure you all know, is a baby duck. As I seem to recall, it was a mallard duckling. Yes, yet again, this little guy and his siblings - three of them if I recall correctly - were recipients of a rescue. This time they were rescued by our local animal control officer at our police department. They were found homeless and motherless. My wife - who works for the police department as a secretary for the detectives - volunteered to bring them home to give to (you guessed it) my "naturalist" brother next door to raise. In this picture you see one of the little ducklings cupped in my wife's hands. That's our koi pond in the background. All three ducklings had a nice swim in our koi pond shortly after this picture was taken. After they got over their initial apprehension over the big scary fishes in the pond, they had a grand time splashing, scooting and diving. LOL, they were like little kids in a pool. They didn't want to get out when it was time to go. Well, I hope you enjoy.

Oh, I remember how super cute these ducklings were, diving and bobbing in the pond once they realized that the koi were not going to eat them. I remember how they picked amongst the rocks on the side and would swim and then preen, then swim again until they were all tuckered out. A sweet memory. And they grew up so quickly...and flew off for parts unknown...

Well, Mike, this is definitely up there on the cuteness scale LOL! I'll refrain from saying it's just 'ducky.' Oops - I guess I just did LOL! Great photo, charming subject. With your brother right next door, I'm guessing you rarely run short of interesting critters to photograph :-D
