Description
The texture map for this rendering was derived from gray-scale maps recently released by Malin Space Science Systems. I have composited & colorized the 10000X5000 cylindrical map to suit my sensibilities. The star background, as usual, was created primarily with Universe. The ground-fog/dust storms were created from an elevation map.

I would have to say this is by far one of the best renders I've seen of Mars. Very nice work! I have done a few of these images myself and really appreciate the effort that you took creating this. Keep up the great work.;-)

Very nice rendered image of Mars, Michael! One thing is missing from this image is the planet Mars have a very thin and glowing hazy orange-red atmosphere around the planet (like our blue hazy atmosphere on Earth). It would greatly enhance the image of Mars. Another thing that would be ubercool is to show Mars after the complete terraformation (a blue-green Mars 1000 years in the future).
