Description
The roof of a shaded hut on the Corniche in Mutrah, Oman.
For those wondering about yesterday's post - she was photographed on a boat going to Masirah Island, Oman. The face masks (rather than the full veil we are used to seeing demonised in western media) are very prominent feature of women in the interior of Oman. They are also a fashion accessory - sometimes being gold or coloured and the slits and length also vary in size - tho they get less and less revealing the older you get so i am told.
Enjoy!

This is stunning. I know little of Islam, but I'm at least aware of the artistic habit of not depicting humans (or many other living things) in order to avoid offending Allah. What fascinates me about this is the way in which it's forced artistic expression to develop in other ways as shown here. I love the sense of frailty and geometry here, and the colors are superb. Fantastic work, as always. Interesting note about the face coverings as well...it gives great insight into the day-to-day lives in the interior portions of Oman.
