another of your references to the collectivist state, and most creative and strange and sly and funny and a bit terrifying. The two side figures seem to be out of Maoist propaganda posters. (I studied them years back, as part of a study of political & propaganda art; that woman has the classic chest-out, proud, strong-worker attitude, with proud smile and hand holding something no doubt very functional. I'm not as sure of the man on the other side, but I assume he's a happy worker too.) But the 3 central figures are all sinister & comic, feline in the worst sense (ie, from the stereotypes of cats as cunning, conning and ultimately deadly), with one cartoon cat who's a riot because it looks so nice and is probably deadly, who are dressed in what appears to be uniforms, though without insignia. I'm not too worried about hamr to the cats so much as harm to us, lol. And I too like the third arm (Cathy), as if to say, "watch yourselves, people, we will take your children if you're not careful". Then you have this European-estate background, Renaissance or 17th even 18th C. estates; maybe medieval too. No Chinese motifs that I can find! And then pure Magritte, with the derby (great touch) and high hat. (And a fedora too, if I see correctly.) And your "signature fish" too. (See how I steal Cathy's words all the time, lol?), with its reminder of the organic & its touch of menace as well. And the background seems to come from an idyllic postcard with those strange blended hues and unnatural highlights so typical of old postcards. An idyllic menace of a piece, with all the juxtapositions of great promise mixed with horrible oppression. A funny menacing image, and another of your fine visual juxtapositions. And I like the cat's eyes in the two flanking people (!), and what almost appears to be cat's whiskers on them too. Can't quite tell, but it sure looks like they're sporting a little cat-ism. Very deft, finely done, and packed as always with your wit, sense of history & always fine visual sense. I'll be back for more...
