Description

Most civilians who have done any interstellar travel have probably done so onboard a Vaughn-Class Multipurpose Cruiser. For the last 40 years the design has been the most popular large civilian cruiser in human-controlled space, and has even seen some sales to alien governments. The Vaughn comes in three basic configurations: It's original science and laboratory configuration, the popular luxury passenger liner variant, and as a hospital ship used by the Terran Protectorate Stellar Navy. Known for its spacious floor plans and cabins, and for the famous upper deck promenade, with its massive windows, the Vaughn is a comfortable and speedy way to see the galaxy. It is also known for its large hangar bay, which can house up to 18 "hopper" short-range shuttles (shown here ferrying up supplies), Arrow interceptors or a mix of both. Luxury liner variants tend to have 16 shuttles and two fighters, hospital ships (usually escorted) have all shuttles, and science vessels will often have a full squadron of fighters and 6 shuttles, since they often operate outside of human-controlled space. There is also room for one or two medium or light transports in a rear hangar. None of the standard variants come with onboard weapon systems, but exploration vessels and some private ships have been fitted with light anti-piracy weapons. Missiles and anti-fighter turrets are most common. Depending on the configuration, the Vaughn, just over 900 feet long, operates with a crew of between 120 and 400, and can carry up to 400 passengers or patients. The space station is the shell of the Antares Bridge freebie from Moebius. All of the space craft are my design, modeled in DOGA-L3 and then touched up, enhanced, textured and rendered in Carrara. Background was created in GIMP 2.6.

I have to echo geirla's comment--again! Great minds think alike, yes? Really enjoy the POV on this one and you've done a great job of giving a proper sense of scale. Like those background planets, too.
