Description

This time -ZOOM- is strongly recommended The other day I found nice little 9mm long woodlouse in my bathroom and of course it made me think of Chip´s love for these creatures, so I grabbed my Olympus with the macro lens on and placed the little fellow on my kitchen table and it changed into a ball. After a while he took a peek and thought I was gone, but I wasnt and I shoot and I shoot. It didnt mind the flasklight, but ran to the edge of the table. I pushed it back and it was a ball again a while, This time it couldnt turn around as the table was too slippery. I took the chance to have some shots of the belly, with and without flashlight. The one without flashlight is the almost x-ray looking one. And I placed him on a paper, so he could unfold and turn around properly. He fell to the floor and hit the carpet and I crawled down taking another shot, just to see if this backgound was better for the look of it and actually I think it was, but felt a bit sorry for this little guy, so I put him back into the bathroom in a little dark hole in the corner. Man I had fun :-) I actually had promised Chip to post a collage for him, so here it is Chip. Hope you like it. -------------------------- Thank you for your kind comments to my previous post and special warm thanks to those who added it to their favorites. Have a great day. The snowstorm has covered my garden so beautifully and it is quite beautiful. No snowing now and it looks peaceful.

Oh Chip is going to LOVE this and I bet he will tell you immediately if it is a boy or girl woodlouse! They creep me out but I am fascinated by Chip's fascination with them! Great collage Helle and yes - a zoom is recommended! :)

Oh Helle, this makes my whole week! This is perfect. Like Andrea though, I want to see a video of you crawling around getting pictures of this critter! Woodlice do have the power to make people do some funny things. I am not absolutely sure but I think this little guy is actually a guy, the water-absorbing gill thingies are rather prominent but I can't see too clearly where the naughty bits are, but that's okay. Such wonderful details. Good species too...it's the "traditional" armadillo type woodlouse...which lives all over the world. I think the other very fancy ones you saw in your garden are only in Europe. You do great collage work and I particularly like all of the shots, but my favorite is the one in the middle. I like the woodlouse and those little fibers! In all of the shots, he looks so busy! I guess you would be busy too if you had to walk around on 14 legs, it would be hard work just keeping up with all of them an not tripping. I adore this and love the dedication! Needless to say I absolutely love this.

A great collage of this little fellow, they tend to get overlooked in life.

So this is a woodlouse.. I kept seeing Chips and didn't connect it to what I have always known this as: A Rolly poly or sow bug. Great shots, and I love the picture in my head of you crawling around trying to shoot it... hehe. The things we do to get the shot! :)
