I am a developing artist working on improving my abilities to create beautiful digital landscape compositions. Without the help and suggestions of the many fellow artists in this community, it would be a long time before I reach the next level.
BIO
I am a retired procurement professional who has long had an interest in photography and painting; and, lately in computers and photorealistic natural landscapes. I hope to become more proficient and perfect my abilities to produce acceptable work. My experience in art started at a very early age when I would spend many hours sketching and painting. I had instruction at The Art Institute in Chicago, Illinois. I did some freelance work for Flying Models, Model Airplane News and Top Flite Models creating plans and illustrative construction sequences for magazines and kit models. I had spent more than 20 years designing, building and flying radio controlled model airplanes...a very rewarding hobby for me. During the 1970s, I spent 11 years in the hobby of "bonsai"; the Japanese art of miniature trees. In my first 7 tree entry in a contest, all 7 trees were awarded ribbons in various categories. Japanese landscaping became a passion for me where I completed a 3 year project creating a Japanese landscape around my home in Oak Forest, Illinois. I also did this work for several other people in our community. In 1987 I moved to Phoenix, Arizona where I currently make my home. The love of the American southwest and all its beauty is where I wanted to spend the rest of my life. Now that we have computers, digital cameras; and, Terragen; I'll have enough to do for a long, long time.

As dumb as it may seem, I am willing to bet the Saguaros will be around a million years from now and we won't...They got more patience than we do :) Nice big render, but the low pixel count makes me wonder if it would look even better if it were closer to the max allowed here. Either way your work is still awesome.

You've got to love this one. no choice...!!!

Boy, this is really photo-real. Too bad the city boneheads don't have the appreciation you do for your desert environs. Agree with abrejos- they'll outlast us. Beautiful scene.

Bob, this is a desert masterpiece. The topography is spot on. The distribution of botanicals is perfect. The rocks and colors and ground work is terrific. The only thing I would like to see is the light angle adjusted so that we can see more light reflecting off the big saguaro. It is mostly shadowed. However, this will be tricky, because I like how the light is now on the ground and lighting up the rocks and foliage. So, having it come from the right will put the entire foreground hill in shadow, which would detract from the details on the hill. But I love the sky, colors and light in the atmo. Just terrific.

This reminds me of the Marty Robbins song "El Paso", now I can't get the song out of my head!! I really like this. It is very natural and has a calming effect on me and Lord knows I need it, Thanks Bob!!!

I agree with Steve; "desert masterpiece." Could you get light reflecting off the tall cactus by adding a second sun? Bravo!

pretty realistic Bob

Very realistic! A wonderful and calm scene, great!!

Sad, sad story about the cacti - IMO they, like palm trees here in north Texas have no place other than their natural (or similar) environment. I like the semi-silhouetted catus, and the spotty scrub brush in the diatance. Nicely thought out!

The global effect is great. I like your format (my screen is 1680x1050).
