Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

Why am I not surprised this came out of your trip to Georgia? LOL. Well seen and captured for us Marilyn:-)))

Oh my god! This is fabulous. I particularly like the bit about the top soil. I lived in Florida for 2 years in the late 90s. These things were all over the place! I do remember this particular sign, and of course there were praying hands with "DID YOU THINK TO PRAY?" in letters bigger than the ones I just typed. What was particularly funny is that half the time they were located near sex shops and porno palaces. My particular favorite was on the outskirts of Bradenton, Florida (which is on the outskirts of nowhere) where in the same line of sight you could see "Jesus Saves" and "We show our titties, y'all come and see!" (Seriously, that's what it said!) God I wish I'd had a camera. Great shot!

Hmmm...my topsoil has been a fit faithless lately. This is amazing on so many different levels that I can't even begin to describe them all. I've seen similar signs...not exactly this phrase, but in delivering dental equipment, I've had the dubious pleasure of riding though a place called South Holland. It's a staunchly religious community and its full of billboards advertising God. I love the dichotomy of this. Top soil and God. I'm sure there's a connection at some deeply existential level, but it doesn't seem as if this particular neck of Thunderbold Georgia is particularly existential. This is hilarious. And I'm always amazed at where God tends to pop up in American culture. Near the place where I live, there is a laundromat that offers a free wash for every question you get right on its daily Bible quiz. I think it's actually owned by the church next door...a storefront church, no less! Chicago is full of those! I love the quirkiness of this shot, but I have to admit that its a wee bit disquieting. If you don't talk God in precisely the right way, you might get topsoil that's a bit too sandy. Oh, and I love that stylized "rocket shaped dove" in the corner of the billboard.
