Description

After the death of my dear friend Arthur J Crudworthy I was going through his papers when I saw a brightly coloured crumpled and folded piece. When I unfolded it I found it was a film poster from Japan. I know that old Arthur was a prolific science fiction author, but I had never heard him say that he liked to watch films... and Japanese ones to boot. I took the poster to a friend who collected such items and asked his opinion... it was a poster for a film that was never completed. the story goes like this: in the late 1960s Toho of Japan were trying to find a successor to Godzilla, as they felt he was getting a little long in the tooth. The great director Ishiro Honda came up with the idea of a space monster called Gorado... Okay, it's all absolute rubbish, but I was feeling nostalgic for the monsters of my youth and so here is my attempt to recreate that style of poster. The monster is by *mightylady*, and it works pretty well. I exported it from D|S and into Bryce. Much tinkering with textures and set-ups later the render was poppped into PhotoShop or extra work. That finished image was then used as a texture on a plane back in Bryce where a bump map was used to create the wrinkles. That render was taken back to PhotoShop for final touches and here it is... a lot of work for something so silly. I hope you like it. Thanks for looking. Iain (PS - apologies to Toho for using their logo... don't sue me ^_^)

Looks cool. I think Toho's first mistake was thinking they could find a successor to Godzilla, and in the same genre to boot.
