Description

V4, VSSPR3 and EnvSphere by bagginsbill. Set up and rendered in P8 with IDL. I had a real struggle with the white dress here which I wanted to keep simple but it kept getting washed out. Should have used a better bump too. But this test is really all about the dynamic hair. A few people have asked about what I'm doing with dynamic hair and it's really quite straitforward - I'm increasing the number of hairs in selected groups and decreasing the settings for root/tip width. In this case I was using the freebie 'Shena Hair' by adorana, and I increased the number of hairs in the top-most groups only (LinksOben, RechtsOben, Scheitel) to between 250 and 300. I also decreased the root width to 0.3 and the tip width to 0.1 for these groups. I think I adjusted the unten group as well. The shader was left pretty much as is, except that I decreased the ambient value on the root node right down to 0.05 (just lifting the tones in the final render) and lightened the specular on the hair node a little. These changes give a much denser body to the hair but with finer strands (much like real hair). Needless to say this increases render times (getting on for two hours in this case with IDL). I wish I could get to grips with styling my own hair but I'm baffled at present. I'm happy enough adjusting some of the better freebie ones at the moment. Thanks so much for the fantastic comments on the previous render, 'After Betty'.

That hair treatment is absolutely fabulous. I've been playing with a lot of things, but never dared go that tiny with the widths. Now I definitely will.. Great portrait.
