Description

The shopping district in downtown Seattle. It was my goal to see my own city with tourist eyes, and perhaps capture something here that's similar to what I saw in Chicago. Not necessarily to compare Seattle and Chicago (although lord knows I do enough of that!), but to see the familiar as if I'd never seen it before. What a challenge! I would say, "Okay, let's go down to the market. We'll turn at that light there ..." and I'd be focused on being a tour guide rather than an observer. Let me tell you ... details pass you by when you're focused on a goal or a destination! It was really hard to remember to SEE.

You have seen well, Tara. You looked up too, another thing we tend to forget to do. Layers of reflection - wonderful! Thanks for the view, Clive

I love how the scarf has the same lines as the building behind it--and of course, the red helps a lot!! And you did manage to SEE a lot while you were doing your guiding!!

Ah ha, #2 Union Square I presume (thanks Wiki) and look, that thing hanging off the side contains window washers. All that seen here thanks to your superb treatment of the reflections you found...which so many pedestrians and riders simply pass by with little or no regard. On the flip side, it does take about three times as long to walk a street as a tourist rather than a resident:) Thanks to your example...I've learned to walk a street anywhere anytime as a seeing, picture taking tourist. :)

WOW! For a second, looking at the thumbnail, I thought it was Chicago. This is incredibly well seen, and I love walking cities as a tourist might, or at least in the manner of an alien probe sent here from far far away to observe the life and habits of urban life forms. Of course I wouldn't be an alien so much as a probe, the society that sent me would be familiar and thus, not alien...but those weird hairy things on earth...now THOSE are alien! Now, as for this shot, it's amazingly rich in details. I love all of those reflections, the world within a world that you convey...those lines, the downward swoop of red, the upward swoop of other lines and a faint curve as well...it's all so intriguing and subtly graceful. This is gorgeous work!

Well I'm glad you did see...and I'd fight Carin for the scarf in a charity shop, but not at the price it probably is! (she can keep the coat, I don't do BEIGE!)

And that is the reason, that I have a note on my bulletin board, to go back in your gallery, to May 29, 2009 and finally comment on your “tourist survey”. I still can’t balance an answer for you. Liked this POV. Dana
