Description

I visited a display of Taxidermy recently and took a heap of photos. It was really strange seeing animals being so still!

The stiller the better in this case.

This is very well done. Where was this display? A private or public place? I think the painting on this cat could be better as the hardline black takes away from the natural look but the actual mounting and skill processing is excellent and the ears and nostrils were well formed and dried. That's not easy. And the birds intrigue me. They are so difficult to do, especially the songbirds with their tiny wings and legs - fragile breastbones that do not give well to removing the skin from them. I'll be very interested in seeing more of this wildlife artistry and the details you can provide.

Eyes wide, ears back, claws exposed: I've felt like this on occasion--probably more times that I care to admit. The details are amazing, as is the light. It's quite eerie to see a creature so still, or stuck somewhere between alive and not alive--real but not real. Taxidermy is quite intriguing in that respect. And this is a wonderful piece of photographic art.

Great shot, but I find it a bit creepy when animals are stuffed, but probably even worse if this one was that close and not stuffed.
