Description

"Dad, Is this really important for me to know?" (See the little girl in pink) We observed a lot of children at the Boeing Museum of Flight. Generally speaking, little boys were all over the details of the planes while the little girls were often noticeably detached:) Is this a flying car? Interesting... flying object! Dunno for sure if I should call it a flying car or a carwannabe airplane! Nevertheless it's a great shot! Speaking about children, I think they are more passionate and courageous about planes than adults. I used to love aircrafts, been in the air force, but now I fear 'em...

Almost missed the prop in the back. I thought that only James Bond had one of these. Dana

Delightful photo, Bill! She's obviously spellbound - LOL! Hopefully they folded the wing back BEFORE they got it parked... Thanks for the link to the information - very interesting. I'm not entirely convinced that one of these in every garage would have been a good idea, judging by the expertise of some of the drivers populating our highways :-D Imagine the rain of debis falling from the sky...

Oh wow. At the time I so wanted these to succeed but like RodS wondered about aerial congestion.

Oh yeah, something I definitely need if I want to avoid the gridlocked ground traffic going into and/or leaving the San Fernando Valley. Superb POV in this capture of the wonderfully versatile vehicle, Bill. Looks like a toy from up here.

I love it, Bill! On the way to the shops yesterday I foolishly greeted a geeky 30-something flying a tiny 6" helicopter on his front path, and got trapped with TMI about rpm, cams, notches, Mks, the specs of next model coming out.......... I shouldn't think anyone gave him a card today! But your photo is great!

Fantastic capture and POV!! well, you get what you sow!! usually parents and relatives give dolls and plastic juwels to little girls and very rarely kits of airplanes, plastic guns, model cars. These are gifts for boys! Here in Italy also the PC is intended as for boys. Girls get fashion dresses (for themselves or their dolls). You appear less feminine if you're interested in engines and gears and you have been hammered about it since childhood. Hence if they show an interest they look "masculine"....

Oh yeah! I thought these were neat. But then I would have to owned a house with a garage and an airstrip!! I had the garage (filled with stuff), no airstrip.

What we saw that day lends credence to my theory that children are born with their personalities intact, and it's our job to discover who they are, not to mold them into little clones! I remember the little boy next to the Corsair, about 3 years old, who asked, "Mommy, did that engine come out of that plane there?" He was absolutely drinking in every detail, fully absorbed in the experience of all those planes. I remember this little girl in pink, too. She was well behaved, but in a rather dead bored sort of way. I know there are girls who love engines and boys who don't, and I'm all for people pursuing what they love, but there really IS some sort of gender-linked engine-loving trait! It doesn't change much as we get older. You'll notice I've got scads of photos of the Corsair and of props and cowlings, but I never pointed my camera at this flying car, and barely looked at it. I see something like this and think, "well, THAT's a silly idea!" and move on. No curiosity, no imagination, no "what-ifs." Ah well ...

Great shot but i feel i have to add something to your remark. American anthropologist Margaret Mead did pioneering work on gender consciousness. She sought to discover to what extent temperamental differences between the sexes were culturally determined rather than innate. She described her findings in Sex and Temperament in Three Primitive Societies (1935) and explored the subject more deeply in the next decade with Male and Female (1949). Mead found a different pattern of male and female behavior in each of the cultures she studied in Papua-New Guinea, all different from gender role expectations in the United States at that time. She found among the Arapesh a temperament for both males and females that was gentle, responsive, and cooperative. Among the Mundugumor (now Biwat), both males and females were violent and aggressive, seeking power and position. For the Tchambuli (now Chambri), male and female temperaments were distinct from each other, the woman being dominant, impersonal, and managerial and the male less responsible and more emotionally dependent. ;-D

Great photo of this unique invention. The little girl at least seem to be listening to what the man is saying instead of darting off to see something else.

I always wanted one of these, ever since seeing the one in "The man with the Golden Gun". This guy better get a move on....that looks like one BIG plane on his tail. The little girl probably didn't eat her greens so Dad dragged her off to see the planes.....a warning to all little girls, and worth remembering for little boys.Great POV and lighting, worth a zoom to see the gravy stain on the drivers tie :)
