UPDATED: September 19, 2010
Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

Those freakin' termites are really "hard" workers, they destroy everything that means wood... got some shots from last summer, when I watched my cousin laying down a huge tree condemned by termites...
dbrv6
Crunchy. They are very busy workers and its amazing how much they can eat.
drace68
Yuck. I agree with you, Bill: "they had to go."

I like the apartment house reference. We have to spray quarterly, down here, due to the humidity factor. Sweet catch Bill. Dana

Nice shot. I'm just about to post a shot of some old wood too! Great minds think alike.

OH YIKES! That makes me think about the old Donald Duck cartoons where he was invaded of termites. I really got a bad impression of termites then LOL ! Excellent shot though, Bill.

I must admit...I like Termites...way the heck over in Africa and nowhere near where I live. It's the same with bedbugs...I like them, in somebody else's bed...NOT mine. The same goes for any competitor/predator species. My house is MY house...so if you attempt to eat it or me...you die!!!! That's how I feel about termites, despite the fact that I do like them immensely...in Africa. I'd probably feel differently if I lived in Africa...which just goes to show that there is some truth in the expression: "Absence makes the heart grow fonder." To which I say, "well, make sure they remain absent!" OK...having ranted. I like this photo a lot, though I have to say that termite poop looks like woodlouse poop. How odd! Or have you photographed a woodlouse infestation too? They will move in after termites and clean up after them, which pretty much means the foundation in question is totally wrecked, as are the walls and the ceiling! Ugh...I think I know just a wee bit too much about bugs! But that doesn't change the coolness factor of this photo or the wonderful details and textures. Great work...on your part at least...destructive work on the part of your momentary photographic collaborators.

Yikes Bill those lil B's can do a lot of damage! African ones seem a lot smarter and build their own homes!
sandra46
terrific great image!! thankfully we have houses made in bricks and concrete a bit hard for those termites to bite ;-D
npauling
An excellent capture of the damage these little brats do. Thank goodness we don't have any down here they sound a real menace.

Super stellar clarity, light/shadow, textures and striative effects in this wonderful macro, Bill. That dark mealy stuff looks like hamburger. I wonder if its feces. Actually, the whole thing looks like lasagna. And, I am not a termite fan. Every decade or so, we have to pack up and leave while the termite eradicators tent and rid our condo complex of the wood-munching critters, which costs considerable bucks.
jocko500
they do tear up stuff man made. in the wild they ok for me for they will eat the dead trees and if you have to eat them to live too.
auntietk
Great macro! Full view is just full of fascinating details. Nice light, too!
