Description

This picture was made during the waning moments of Chip's and my photo shoot along the North Branch of the Chicago River, early last month. What had started out as a sunny and seasonably cold day became downright freezing as the sun started to set and a brisk, stinging wind began to blow. As I recall, my fingers had begun to go numb and the camera got cranky. Shortly after we crossed this bridge, Chip and I headed back to my apartment for hot cocoa with dehydrated marshmallows in it. You've got to love a country that can come up with something as esoteric as dehydrated marshmallows. Though I shudder to think what they're made of. Chip assures me that they're real and that if they're good enough for the astronauts for whom they were invented, then they're good enough for the general public. I frequently find myself wondering where that wacky American ingenuity went. But that's a question for another day. Despite the cold, these photos were a lot of fun to make and Chip is always good company. Photographed on January 9th, 2010

The bridge shadows with all the parallels and diagonals makes your picture. Now I am wondering what the little concrete, tent shaped enclosures are on the other side of the chain link fence at the end of the street? There's a lot to see here...very interesting.

I remember this! I got nearly the same picture, but a closer view of those barricades that look like little huts for...oh, really tiny people! I love the light in this, and as I recall, the light that day was as good as the light last Sunday near the pumping station. I do like the complexity of this image...lots of rakish diagonals. And on top of those, more rakish diagonals so that the whole image takes on this almost abstract quality. Those goldish, brownish, Chicago-dun tones are really nice in contrast with the snow. Really good stuff. I like this a lot!

I like the shadow bridge, and I like the shadow photographer! :) Hmmm ... I must admit, I'm wondering about those little huts, too. Solitary confinement for ill-behaved Pekingese? Bunkhouses for indigent cats? Apartment hives for very large bees?

Well, I too am curious about the kennelly things. The shadow is vey interesting, the bottom half of the picture stands well on its own..but then we wouldn't have this question ......

I LOVE this picture...its perfect. The light is excellent and creates a delicate shadow leaving what might be casting it to your imagination.

Lol, dehydrated Marshmallows. I wonder what that is, other than the normal ones. :) A fun shot it is :-)
