Married to Claire, aka PurpleJelly, a not-currently-active member here. We have two children, Samuel and Ilona. Sam has recently been diagnosed with autism and Ilona appears to be pretty much the same but we're awaiting the outcome of further tests. We all share our house with nine (yes, nine!) cats. Good job it's a big house.
Due to the little ones, I don't spend as much time here as I used to, but I'm intending to spend more time working on my modelling and hopefully selling a few bits and pieces here. I have an extensive range of Dalek models available in Freestuff, and at least one other non-Dalek freebie. More freebies will be forthcoming as time allows, including - but not limited to - more Dalek stuff and perhaps the odd bit of scenery and general SF stuff.

YOUR IMAGE LACKS THE RRRRREQUISITE AMOUNT OF TARNISHED BRASS. IT WILL BE EXTERRRRRMINATED! EXTERMINATED! EXTERMINATED! I like it. :D

Lookin good as for improvement i think it is a great job you hace done on him

The grid under the dome doesn't look like it's catching any shadows. You might need to replace it with another shader and then reapply the texture map. I've run into this weird problem in poser before. The silver matte paint of the body looks like painted wood, NOT shiny metal. You need to make it ray-traced reflective or put a reflec map on it. Otherwise--pretty cool.

uhmmmm, samtherapy sent me here sharpish. The top part of this little fellow is good. The lower part is cartoonish and could do with more photorealistic shaders and perhaps higher poly mesh. Just me humble opinion, gov.

THIS IMAGE IS NOT INDIRECTLY ILLUMINATED! YOU WILL USE INDIRECT ILLUMINATION OR BE EXTERMINATED! This would also allow you to not have to resort to using ambient color on it, which would EXTERMI... er, eliminate the cartoonish look :) Also keep in mind that for most images (such as this one), 25-50% IDL quality is perfectly adequate. The lower you can set it and still not see artifacts, the faster the render will be.

I like the lighting but I think a little contrast might help i.e. photoshop/gimp, or a little less diffuse lighting. I also agree about the look of the metal body resembling plastic which would probably work better if you gave it a reflection map. (All this is said with the assumption that you're going for reality) I hope I made sense. :)

I strongly disagree about using a reflection map. That's a sure fire way to kill realism. Ask bb. :) The materials are set up to reflect the environment around the Dalek, so that's what you get. There's not much going on at the front but that's because it's standing on an open area. I will, however, put some more stuff behind the camera to give something other than the sky to reflect. I deliberately didn't go for a super shiny look, since the current versions of the Dalek aren't all that shiny. Perhaps I should introduce some surface noise to make that more apparent. Can't use IDL, I have P6. Sorry bout dat. A lot of people have commented on the look of the thing too, so perhaps a change of colour on the hemis is in order.

What's a Dalek? I'm into porn, not science fiction. Interesting machine, but nevertheless can it mow the lawn and wash the dishes? That is the big question. dph

Excellent.

Based on the reflection on the top part of the "thingie" (Dalek?) your lights appear to be a bit hot. Have the materials been gamma-corrected? I suppose the device is meant to appear threatening, but the shape is a bit too reminiscent of an R2 unit to do that for me....

I am so happy to see you posting again!!! In my opinion.. it´s just perfect.. the right amount of everything.. it looks pretty realistic to me Paul! I like it alot!

DpHoadley, put crudely, a Dalek is effectively a "Robo-Nazi from Outer Space". Imagine a "creature" so obsessed with its perceived superiority that it wants to wipe out every other living thing in the universe. Now comes the irony. Daleks are so damaged on the chromosome level by radiation released during an eons old atomic war that they can no longer survive without containment vessels, mobile "iron lungs" feeding air to their atropied lungs and nutrients to their all but non-functional digestive systems. They are little more than pathetically feeble tentacled slugs that would die if removed from their armored casings (the device in Sam's render) for any length of time. But while inside their shells, they are a nearly unstoppable force, having managed to wipe out entire populated worlds, sweeping across galaxies like a viral plague, "exterminating" everything within range of their optical sensors. That is a Dalek. Sincerely, Bill
