Description

The family and grandkids are here for a few days. This morning they all decided to go to the Trafford Centre - Manchester to go shopping. Did I want to go. I checked my list of 100 things to do before I die...it wasn't on there. So off they went and I headed up onto the moors to a nearby reservoir for some ME time. When it was constructed in 1832, the dam of the Entwistle Reservoir was the highest in Britain. Standing 108ft high, it is 360ft long and holds back some 726 million gallons of water and, together with the Wayoh Reservoir lower down the valley, provides about half the water needed for Bolton. There is a very pleasant two mile walk around the reservoir. In summer it is very picturesque being surrounded by woodland and contains a lot of wildlife. Mallards..Canadian Geese..Cormorants and Herons are just some of the birds to be found here. This walk I did this morning with the moors covered in deep snow and shrouded in thick fog. An eerie but very peaceful and pleasant walk. It all looks a bit monochromatic...but that's how it was..freezing fog and the reservoir completely frozen over.
