Description
this was from a birthday party I attended last Saturday evening.the lady is a cancer survivor and Filipina. the cake was one half Ube a very popular flavor in the Philippines and one half Mocca.they had the party catered in a local hotel near Love Field airport, but the cake was made by one of her closest friends
Ube is the Filipino word for purple yam (Dioscorea alata). It contains pigments that gives its violet color. In the Philippines, ube is cooked with sugar and eaten as a sweetened dessert or jam called halaya ube which is a medium violet color. Ube is also an ingredient in the fruity dessert halo halo, another popular Filipino dessert. Ube is sometimes confused with the Okinawa sweet potato.Ube is now used in a variety of desserts, as well as a flavor for ice cream, milk, Swiss rolls, tarts, cookies, cakes, and other pastries. Ube also sometimes is used in the Philippines to denote the colour purple or violet.

Thank you for that piece of cake, Richard. It's a good reminder of old times when I was in the Philippines, ube cake, ube ice cream, ube candies. It's similar to sweet yam but purple. That looks delicious, yum!
