Description
The Pheasant-tailed Jacana or "Lily-trotter" is found in India, Southeast Asia, and Indonesia.
This is the only jacana to have a different breeding plumage and grows a long sickle shaped tail during the breeding season. All jacana females are polyandrous having up to 4 husbands and nests during breeding season. The husbands assume all the work of child-rearing.
The Pheasant-tailed Jacana is capable of swimming, although it usually walks on the vegetation. It is considered endanagered in Taiwan.
