Description

My wife wanted a cover illustration for her calendar (it's one of those where you can add your own photo to a plastic pocket) so I took the opportunity to dive deeper into Maxwell Render and especially its materials. This is the result and it only took some 15 minutes to get this quality at 1800 x 1800. Not absolutely satisfied but I'm getting there :) Modeled in C4D R11.5 and rendered in Maxwell Render.

wow, nice. I dunno if lead would show highlights quite like that though, they look a bit more like brushed steel to me

Thanks guys :) I'm mainly not satisfied with the material, like FrankT says it looks too much like brushed steel. Yep, Maxwell 2.0!

Great work! I got some lead types, and from what I can see the letters has a darker tone, due to the smudge from the printing ink, but these are perhaps new? All in all excellent pov, dof and lighting. :) Strata

Material looks like the real thing having operating a letterpress many years ago but shouldn't the type be reversed for printing? But of course that could be your proprietary font and you have artistic license.

Thanks folks! Sesh: Absolutely correct but I figured that I could bend reality slightly in order to show the letters in a legible way ("SÅ" are the initials of my wife's name).

Perfect example of how you can take the most ordinary objects and create a beautiful image.

I used to work with lead type, and these look photographic. Use keeps the letter face shiny in answer to FrankT's comment way up there. And yes, the type should be reversed, but hey....who cares! This looks awesome! And on a side note...molten lead HURTS!
