Description
Its an old steams ship from the great Lake, the name being " Fernglen. " She had sat in the "turning basin " for over 2 years her day at hand unsure but her fate secured to the wreckers torch in some far flung scrap yard in the world. She had served true and well, bringing the needed cargoes to the ports so we could eat, sleep, work and wear what we did. She sits now derelict, cold, forgotten a part of the past soon to be reduced to scrap.
Thanks for the look..........

I love the freighters and steamers of the Great Lakes. Their history is rich and long. Great shot.

Thanks so much for the info that goes with it. It actually seems sad that she is going the way she is.........but I guess it is the fate of us all. Maybe that's why it's so sad.

Well thanks all of you for the comments. Yes blinkings, they all do go the way you see them. I have been on many of the scrap tows before they were taken way and can tell you honestly that everything is pretty much left the way it is when they are " paid off " and the crew leaves. I have over the years collected files and reams of documents that detail the ships history and many logs that indicates where she has gone, the cargoes she as carried etc. Indeed it is sad in many ways to see this part of our heritage go but it's life. To stand and walk the decks of some of the old steamers, to traverse the bowels of them and sit in the cabins of long since gone crew members, to stand on the bridge and lookout at where it might have been, to visit the silent engine rooms where once raw power flowed is both deeply interesting and yes at the same time haunting. Am glad you enjoyed and again thank you........................
