Extreme emotion! I have seen this expression on the face of a person with learning difficulties and it spoke for them.

great comments, and all deserved. I thought "palavras" was "puzzle," but I was wrong: One dictionary said it meant "crossword puzzle" (palavra cruzada)---but that's because "words" are used in palavras cruzadas! So I looked it up again, and saw that it means "words". And that's a very powerful title. The person in your drawing is unable to speak: He or she--as Nikolay says--is gripped with uncontrollable fear. And your comment to Kartijer says that you feel it's political & social: Maybe you're portraying the way governments stop us from speaking. Maybe you're portraying what so many countries have gone through in the 20th Century---including Portugal, Spain, Romania, the Soviet Union, etc. And parts of America. Whether political or personal, it's a very powerful vision of a person unable to speak, a person suffering censura, a person who cannot say what is deep inside them, and a portrait of words crying to get out. The drawing is almost a 'scream'---but a silent scream. And you've made the hands come right out of the face, a very powerful portrait, Ana. The eyes speak a universe. As with all your art, it could be personal & political, and it could have many meanings. Very powerful, and beautifully done, with those wonderful Caran d'Ache Neopastels! Another masterful piece from you, for which I & your fans are very grateful. A very powerful drawing.

How amazing! This looks like what Ursula LeGuin once called "Stalin of the Soul" which is the powerful desire some people (especially artists) feel to silence themselves before they can speak. It is a terrible thing to consider! This is a very powerful image. It speaks of so many different things...maybe it is the fear of speaking, or maybe it is the fear of simply saying something "stupid." What I also find amazing about this is the fact that it reminds me of an alien in science fiction also...maybe a creature that speaks differently and the hand-shapes are a natural part of its face, its mouth. This adds extra meaning for me, because with such a creature, how would we communicate? What would we say? How would we understand each other? This is what amazes me the most. This single piece of perfect art raises many questions and shows many different things. It does so beautifully!
