Description

Tininka laments, "My Kingdom for a left-knee recirculator hose." The favor had sounded so simple - walk old man Joshua's ancient Mark V Pro-Stacker through the wastes to Thorik's scrap yard, so Joshua could earn some badly needed hard credits. Actually, this loan was rare, for Joshua trusted no one with his Angelina (as he called the stacker) no one but Tininka ... and apparently Thorik. Joshua had promised her the old heap of obsolescence was in perfect health for a long stroll ... yet here she sat, stalled by a busted hose on the left walker knee. She could not leave the old antique alone. Best-case, local mud-lizards would feast upon a dozen more hoses, dying blissful slow deaths as the poisonous hydraulic fluid worked its euphoric magic on the dim-brutes. Worst-case, a rag-n-bone man would happen upon the heap, reasoning that something so valuable left unattended for a few minutes equated abandoned, and thus salvageable. Tininka would have to call for help, but who would help? Certainly no one would help on old man Joshua's behalf; the old grumpy recluse had few friends, certainly none young or mobile enough to come out to this nowhere-land to help her. Tininka would need to call in favors on her own dime. But who? Whom could she trust to not get side-tracked, to not call up in a few hours begging excuse since "something else" had came up? Benny - she would need to call Benny. He would help, she could trust him to come fast and bring the right gear to fix Angelina. Yet Benny would barter a fee from the young woman which Johusa could not repay to her from any credit purse. She hated giving up such payments, but it was the only solution she saw. Tininka reached for her comm-side, flipping on the high-cost roaming mode. This would not be the first time that doing a simple favor for others cost her far more than she wished to pay. Who sayz that 'Us' engineers can't do art as well. I know your predicimen in reverse. As an ex-engineer that loved to bash metal I now rely on my truck driving skills to make ends meet for my family, I'm too qualified for anyone here to employ me as a Tech and pay the rate. My art here is the escape I need to keep me sane. You have a talent and, though it may not support you now, should never be hidden. Keep up the great work....
